Aug 15, 2025 – Tobias Steinemann

What are Swiss law firms doing on LinkedIn? As we do every summer, we took a closer look at the available data for the following firms: Altenburger, Baker & McKenzie Switzerland, Bär & Karrer, Bratschi, CMS Switzerland, Homburger, Kellerhals Carrard, Lalive, Lenz & Staehelin, MLL, MME, NKF, Pestalozzi, Schellenberg Wittmer, Vischer, Walder Wyss, Wenger Vieli, and Wenger Plattner.

Note: The data was collected on 15 August 2025.

LinkedIn data is constantly changing. The following observations therefore represent a snapshot as of the date indicated. Unless otherwise stated, the figures relating to developments refer to the 12-month period preceding the data collection.

Schellenberg Wittmer Takes the Top Spot

Since 2019, we have been collecting the follower numbers of these firms once a year. For all those years, LALIVE held the number one position – in 2019 still with 4,236 followers. This year, the ranking of the most-followed firm has changed. The new leader is Schellenberg Wittmer.

Here are the Top 5:

  1. Schellenberg Wittmer – 15,078
  2. Lenz & Staehelin – 14,653
  3. LALIVE – 14,623
  4. Bär & Karrer – 14,095
  5. Walder Wyss – 12,221

Also surpassing 10,000 followers are Homburger (11,984) and Kellerhals Carrard (11,500). The other firms range between 9,475 (MLL) and 2,125 followers (Wenger Plattner). The average is 9,008 followers per firm account – an increase of 1,487 followers on average compared to last year.

Almost 3,000 New Followers in One Year

Important: “New followers” refers to the number of users who start following the company page in a given period. This is not the same as the net increase in followers over the same period, as unfollows and account deletions are not included.

In the 12 months before the data was collected, Schellenberg Wittmer gained 2,840 new followers and inherits the title from Homburger. The Prime Tower firm had gained the most new followers in 2024.

This year’s Top 5:

  1. Schellenberg Wittmer – 2,840
  2. Lenz & Staehelin – 2,466
  3. Kellerhals Carrard – 2,347
  4. Bär & Karrer – 2,069
  5. Walder Wyss – 1,990

The average number of new followers is 1,493.

Percentage Growth Continues to Decline

On average, the firms increased their follower count by 19.94%. In previous years, growth stood at 22.05% (2024) and 27.2% (2023). While accounts continue to grow in absolute numbers, the percentage growth is decreasing compared to prior years – as expected.

The fastest-growing account in percentage terms was Schellenberg Wittmer (32.21%), followed by Kellerhals Carrard (25.45%), Walder Wyss (24.81%), Altenburger (23.28%), and Lenz & Staehelin (22.82%).

Less LinkedIn Activity Than Last Year

Once again, the number of posts over the past 12 months varied greatly. Counts range from 248 posts (Walder Wyss and Kellerhals Carrard) to 45 posts (LALIVE). LALIVE has consistently shown restraint in posting activity over the years and has always been the firm with the fewest posts.

MME’s record from last year (321 posts) remains unmatched in 2025. MME reduced its activity by almost a third, posting 233 times in the past 12 months.

Industry-wide, posting activity slightly declined. On average, firms published 162.21 posts over the year – down from around 170 the year before.

New Developments in Engagement per Post

Engagement includes all interactions with a post, such as likes or comments. Over the last 12 months, Schellenberg Wittmer again leads in this category, with 16,711 engagements – well above last year’s leader (MLL, 13,780).

Top 5 in total engagement:

  1. Schellenberg Wittmer – 16,711
  2. Kellerhals Carrard – 14,675
  3. MLL – 12,994
  4. Walder Wyss – 12,172
  5. Lenz & Staehelin – 12,098

Here, high posting frequency helps – more posts mean more opportunities for engagement.

The interesting question is: how much engagement does a firm get on average per post?

In recent years, LALIVE was unbeatable in this category, clearly ahead of the competition. In 2024, for example, LALIVE averaged 197 reactions per post. This year, LALIVE again leads with 106 reactions per post – almost double the average (55.28).

However, for the first time, another firm is close behind: Homburger averaged 102 engagements per post, only four fewer than LALIVE. The narrower gap is mainly due to LALIVE’s reduced per-post engagement, which has nearly halved.

Number of “associated members”

Users can list company pages as their employer on their profiles. The total number of users doing so appears as “associated members” on the company page. While this is not an exact measure of headcount or FTEs, it offers an indication of the firm’s size or at least how many employees use LinkedIn.

Top 5 firms by associated members:

  1. Kellerhals Carrard – 476
  2. Lenz & Staehelin – 457
  3. Walder Wyss – 453
  4. Bär & Karrer – 361
  5. Homburger – 336

There were no ranking changes here. The largest increase was seen at Schellenberg Wittmer (+22.36%). This does not necessarily mean the firm grew significantly compared to others – the rise could also be due to more employees being encouraged to join LinkedIn or to LinkedIn-active hires replacing those without profiles.

A similar trend (+21.35%) can be observed at Vischer.

In the opposite direction, LALIVE now has only 170 associated members in 2025, down 13.27% from last year. This could explain its lower engagement per post.

So what?

A LinkedIn analysis of the Swiss legal market doesn’t stop at raw numbers. For law firms, a content overview and qualitative assessments of the competition are also essential marketing tasks. However, the numbers do offer useful insights and can serve as a benchmark for one’s own activity – even if most lawyers in Switzerland shouldn’t directly compare themselves to the large firms.
